ನೆಂಟರೂರಿಗೆ ಹೋಗಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ದಿವಸವಿದ್ದರೆ
ಎಂಟು ದಿನದಾಯಾಸ ಅಟ್ಟಬಹುದೊ
ಉಂಟು ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯವೆಂಬ ಧೈರ್ಯವ ಬಿಟ್ಟು
ವೈ-ಕುಂಠವಾಸಿಯ ಭಜಿಸೊ ತುಂಟ ಜೀವನವೆ ॥೧॥
ಮಡದಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎಂಬ ಮಾಯಾ ಸಂಸಾರಕ್ಕೆ
ಸಡಗರವಗೊಂಡು ಬರಿದೆ ಭ್ರಮಿಸಲೇಕೆ
ಬಿಡದೆ ಯಮನಾಳುಗಳು ಬಾರೆಂದು ಎಳೆವಾಗ
ಮಡದಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಬಹರೆ ಭಂಡ ಜೀವನವೆ ॥೨॥
ಇಷ್ಟ ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ಬಡವರಾ ಕರೆತಂದು
ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಮಾಡಿದ ಪುಣ್ಯಫಲ ತನ್ನದೊ
ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯೊಳು ಕಾಗಿನೆಲೆಯಾದಿಕೇಶವನಂಘ್ರಿ
ಮುಟ್ಟಿ ಮನದಲಿ ಭಜಿಸೊ ಭ್ರಷ್ಟಜೀವನವೆ ॥೩॥

ಅರ್ಥ: ಎಲೈ ಮನವೇ, ಈ ಅಸ್ಥಿರವಾದ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಐಶ್ವರ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಂಬಿ ಅಹಂಕಾರದಿಂದ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಹಿಗ್ಗಬೇಡ.
ಅನುಪಲ್ಲವಿ
ವಾಸುದೇವನ ಭಜಿಸೊ ಒರಟು ಜೀವನವೆ ॥ಅ.ಪ॥
ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿ ಜೀವನವೇ, ಸಕಲರೊಡೆಯನಾದ ವಾಸುದೇವನನ್ನು ಭಕ್ತಿಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿ ಭಜಿಸು.

ಅರ್ಥ: ಪರರ ಊರಿಗೆ (ಸಂಸಾರಕ್ಕೆ) ಹೋಗಿ ನಾಲ್ಕು ದಿನವಿದ್ದರೆ ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಆಯಾಸವನ್ನು ಬೇಗ ಕಳೆಯಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ? ನನ್ನ ಬಳಿ ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯವಿದೆ ಎಂಬ ವ್ಯರ್ಥ ಧೈರ್ಯವನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ವೈಕುಂಠವಾಸಿಯಾದ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನನ್ನು ಭಜಿಸು ಎಲೈ ಚಪಲ ಜೀವನವೇ!

ಅರ್ಥ: ಮಡದಿ, ಮಕ್ಕಳು ಎಂಬ ಈ ಮಾಯಾ ಸಂಸಾರದ ವ್ಯಾಮೋಹದಲ್ಲಿ ಅತಿಶಯವಾಗಿ ಸಂತೋಷಪಟ್ಟು ಏಕೆ ಸುಮ್ಮನೆ ಭ್ರಮೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗುವೆ? ಅಂತ್ಯಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಯಮನ ದೂತರು ಬಂದು ಬಲವಂತವಾಗಿ ಎಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಹೋಗುವಾಗ ನಿನ್ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಮಡದಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾದರೂ ಜೊತೆ ಬರುವವರೇ?

ಅರ್ಥ: ಕಷ್ಟಪಡುವ ಬಡವರನ್ನು ಕರೆತಂದು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಸಂಪತ್ತನ್ನು ದಾನ ಮಾಡಿ ಗಳಿಸಿದ ಪುಣ್ಯವೇ ನಮ್ಮೊಂದಿಗೆ ಶಾಶ್ವತವಾಗಿ ಉಳಿಯುವುದು. ಈ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಗಿನೆಲೆಯ ಆದಿಕೇಶವನ ಚರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸ್ಮರಿಸಿ ಭಜಿಸು.

Summary (English)
In this moral and philosophical composition set in Raga Chakravaka and Khanda Chapu Tala, Sri Kanakadasa admonishes humanity against hoarding wealth and pride ("Wealth should not be centralized"). Comparing worldly attachment to the temporary discomfort of a guest's stay, the saint reminds the seeker that wives and children will not accompany the soul when Yamadootas arrive at death's door. The hymn urges devotees to share their wealth with the needy, shed illusions, and take absolute refuge at the lotus feet of Kagineli Adikeshava.

Meaning: If you go to a relative's house for a few days, can the fatigue be driven away easily? Give up the false pride of possessing fortune, O restless soul, and worship the Lord of Vaikuntha!

saḍagaravagaṇḍu baride bhramisalēke
biḍade yamanāḷugaḷu bārendu eḷevāga

Meaning: Why rejoice and wander blindly in the illusion of worldly life called wife and children? When Yamadootas come relentlessly to drag you away at the end, will your wife and children ever come along with you, O foolish soul?

koṭṭu māḍida puṇyaphala tannado
