Kannada Composition by Sri Vaadiraaja

1. Sakala rishigallhalhi, Hari namma swaamiyaagi rakshisu

2. Jaladhalli machhavathaaranaagi

Sthhaladhalli vaamananaagi rakshisu nimma nenevara

Aakaasadhalli trivikramanaagi rakshisu

Bhayagallhalhi naarasimhanaagi maargadhalli

Varaahanaagi rakshisu nimma nenevara

3. Parvattagaradhalli parassuraamanaagi rakshisu paradesadalli

Raamachandrnaagi rakshisu nimma nenevara

Aasrayadalli naranaarayananaagi rakshisu

Ayogyaralli dhathathreyanaagi rakshisu

Karmabhandhhagalhelhaakalhadu rakshisu kapilamoorthiyaagi

4. Prathaha kaaladhalli kesava namma rakshisu

Sayamkaaladhalli govindaa namma rakshisu

Aparaanakaalagallella kalhadhu rakshisu

Namma sakala kaalagallella narakadinda koormanagi

Rakshisu vipathinindhaa dhhanvanthri rakshisu

5. Madhyanakaladhalli madhhusoodhananaagi

Saayamkaaladhalli sreevatsamoorthiyaagi

Ushathkaaladhalli janaardhananaagi rakshisu

Trisandhyaa kaaladhalli dhamodharanaagi viswa

Moorthiyaagi rakshisu ardha raathriyalli

Hrushikesanaaga aparaathriyalli

Rakshisayya srivatsa moorthiyaagi saama

Vedhakke abimaaniyaadha garudavaahanane

Salahanna vishadha bhayagalhabhidisii Krishna

Makudaadharane rakshiso namanna

Praanhendriya dhindha bhuddhiyindha dhikku dhikku

Galhallhi naarasimha moorthiyaagi naarasimha

Naadhagalhindha ella pariyindhabhaktharanella

NOTE FOR PROUNCIATION

The scheme, recommended by Sri C. Rajagopalachari (Rajaji)

in “Ramayana” (published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan), is followed.

That is, the single a for the short vowel and double aa for the long

Vowel, i, ee as in sheep, seen, u, oo as in moon, cool, loop, e as in

Say, way, made, ai, o as in code, roll, au. E.g., Raama, Seeta,

Soorpanakha.

1.Among all Rishis, (sages who

have undergone severe

austerities), may Sri Hari protect

us in all manner and in all

directions.

2.On water may Sri Hari in his

avataar (incarnation) as fish

protect us. On earth may Sri Hari

in his avataar as Vaamana

protect all of us who meditate on

Him! On space may Sri Hari in

his avataar as Trivikrama protect

us! In cave, jungle, battlefield

etc. may Sri Hari his avataar as

Nrisimha protect us. On

paths/directions, may Sri Hari in

his avataar as Varaaha protect all

of us who meditate on Him!

3.On peaks of mountains, may

Sri Hari in his avataar as

Parasuraama protect us! In

sojourn in foreign lands, may Sri

Hari in his avataar as Sri Raama

protect all of us who meditate on

Him! In refuge, may Sri Hari in

his avataar as Naranaaraayana

protect us! From obstructions to

yoga, may Sri Hari in his avataar

as Dattatreya protct us! From

attachment to effects of deeds,

may Sri Hari in his avataar as

Kapila protect us!

4.In mornings may Sri Hari in his

avtaar as Kesava protect us! In

evenings may Sri Hari in his

avataar as Govinda protect us!

May He remove all inauspicious

times and protect us! May Sri

Hari in his avataar as Koorma

protect us always from the

horrors of hell! May Sri Hari in

his avataar as Dhanvanthri

protect us from all accidents!

5.May Sri Hari as

Madhusoodhana protect us in

afternoons! May He as

SriVatsamoorthy protect us in

evenings! May He as Janardhana

protect us in pre-dawns! May He

as Damodhara and

Visveswaramoorthy protect us in

dawns! May He as Hrishikesa

protect us during the period prior

to midnights! May He as

Srivatsamoorthy protect us in

midnights and during periods

immediately thereafter! You who

are dear to Saamaveda and has

Garuda for Your vehicle, may

You protect us from fear of

poisons! You are Krishna,

wearing a crown, may You

protect us from slavery to the

senses, mind, directions! May

You as Naaraayanamoorthy

protect us from the terrifying roar

of enemies! Sri Narahari! May

You protect all your devotees

against all dangers coming from

all directions!

(Srimadhbhaagavatha, Sixth

Skanda, Eighth chapter). This

Stotram was taught to Indra (the

king of the Gods). Sri Vaadiraaja

has rendered it into Kannada.
