ಕನ್ನಡ ದಾಸ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಪಿತಾಮಹರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಪುರಂದರದಾಸರು ರಚಿಸಿರುವ ಈ ಕೀರ್ತನೆಯು ಭಗವಂತನ ನಾಮಸ್ಮರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಶರಣಾಗತಿಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ಸಾರುವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಕೃತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ದಾಸರು ತಮಗೆ ಇಂದಿರಾರಮಣನಾದ (ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಪತಿಯಾದ) ಆ ಗೋವಿಂದನ ಎರಡು ಪಾದಕಮಲಗಳ ಆಶ್ರಯವೊಂದೇ ಸಾಕಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಲೌಕಿಕವಾದ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸುಖಗಳು ಬೇಡವೆಂದು ಹೇಳಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅಜಾಮಿಳನಂತಹ ಪಾಪಿಯನ್ನು ಕೇವಲ ನಾಮಸ್ಮರಣೆಯಿಂದ ಉದ್ಧರಿಸಿದ, ಮುನಿಗಳ ತಪಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಕಾವಲಾಗಿ ನಿಂತು ಸಲಹಿದ ಆ ಅನಾಥರಕ್ಷಕನು ತಮಗೂ ಒದಗಿ ಬರಬೇಕೆಂದು ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಕೊನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನು ಏಕರೂಪನಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗಾಗಿ ಅನಂತ ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸುತ್ತಾನೆ ಎಂದು ಕೊಂಡಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ತನ್ನ ಆರಾಧ್ಯ ದೈವನಾದ 'ಪುರಂದರ ವಿಠಲ'ನು ಅಜ್ಞಾನಿಯಾದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹರಸಬೇಕೆಂದು ಶರಣಾಗತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಪಲ್ಲವಿ - ಅನುಪಲ್ಲವಿ
ಇಂದಿರಾರಮಣ ಗೋವಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನಯ ಪಾದ-ದ್ವಂದ್ವವೆನಗೆ ಸಾಕೆಲೊ ||
ಅಂದು ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಂಡವ ಸೀಳಿದಂಥ ಪಾದ ಎಂದೆಂದು ಭಕುತರು ಲಾಲಿಸುವ ನಿನ್ನ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀದೇವಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂತೋಷಪಡಿಸುವ ಹೇ ಗೋವಿಂದನೇ! ನನಗೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಪಂಚದ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಅಥವಾ ಸುಖಗಳು ಬೇಡ; ನಿನ್ನ ಆ ಎರಡು ಪಾದಕಮಲಗಳ (ಪಾದ-ದ್ವಂದ್ವ) ಆಶ್ರಯವೊಂದೇ ನನಗೆ ಸಾಕು. ಅಂದು ತ್ರಿವಿಕ್ರಮಾವತಾರವನ್ನು ತಳೆದಾಗ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಾಂಡದ ಗಡಿಯನ್ನು ಸೀಳಿ ಅಳೆದಂತಹ ದಿವ್ಯ ಪಾದಗಳು ನಿನ್ನವು. ನಿನ್ನ ಆ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಪಾದಗಳನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತರು ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿಟ್ಟು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಪೂಜಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆರಾಧಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.

ನಾರಾಯಣ ನಿನ್ನ ನಾಮವು ಅಜಮಿಳನ ಘೋರಪಾಪವ ಅಟ್ಟಿತೊ |

ಅರ್ಥ: ಹೇ ನಾರಾಯಣನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ಹೆಸರಿನ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಎಂಥದ್ದೆಂದರೆ—ಅದರ ಮಹಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಯದೆಯೇ ಕೊನೆಗಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಗನ ಹೆಸರನ್ನು ಕೂಗಿದ ಅಜಾಮಿಳನ ಭೀಕರವಾದ ಮಹಾಪಾಪಗಳನ್ನೇ (ಘೋರಪಾಪವ) ನಿನ್ನ ನಾಮವು ದೂರ ಓಡಿಸಿ, ಅವನಿಗೆ ಮುಕ್ತಿಯನ್ನು ಕರುಣಿಸಿತು. ಇನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನನ್ನೇ ನಂಬಿ, ನಿನ್ನ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಗೆ ಸಾರಿದ (ಬಂದ) ಪರಮ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರಾದ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ಅವರು ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೋರಿದ (ಬಯಸಿದ) ಸಕಲ ವರಗಳನ್ನು ಕರುಣಿಸುವ ಮಹಾ ದಯಾಳು ದಾತನು ನೀನೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದೀಯೆ.

ಅರ್ಥ: ಮಹಾನ್ ಮುನಿಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಋಷಿಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಚಂಚಲವಾದ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನಿಗ್ರಹಿಸಿ (ಮನವನೆ ನಿಲ್ಲಿಸಿ), ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಉನ್ನತವಾದ ಮಹಿಮೆಯುಳ್ಳ (ಘನತರ ಮಹಿಮ) ನಿನ್ನ ದಿವ್ಯ ರೂಪವನ್ನು ಸದಾ ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗ, ಅವರ ತಪಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಭಂಗ ಬಾರದಂತೆ ನೀನು ಅವರಿಗೆ ಕಾವಲುಗಾರನಾಗಿ ನಿಂತು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದ್ದೀಯೆ. ದಾರಿಯಿಲ್ಲದವರಿಗೆ ದಾರಿಯಾಗುವ ಹೇ ಅನಾಥರಕ್ಷಕನೇ, ನೀನು ಕರುಣೆಯ ಸಾಕಾರ ಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದೀಯೆ.
ಚರಣ 3
ಒಂದೆ ಮೂರುತಿಯಾಗಿ ಎಂದು ಇರುವನಾಗಿ ಪೊಂದಿದೆ ಅನಂತ ರೂಪವೆಲ್ಲ |
ಒಂದು ಅರಿಯದ ಎನ್ನ ಕಾಯಬೇಕೋ ಅಣ್ಣ ತಂದೆ ಪುರಂದರ ವಿಠಲ ರಾಯನೆ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನೇ, ಮೂಲತಃ ನೀನು ಒಬ್ಬನೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೂ (ಒಂದೆ ಮೂರುತಿಯಾಗಿ), ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗೂ ಅವಿನಾಶಿಯಾಗಿ ಇರುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದೀಯೆ. ಆದರೆ ನಿನ್ನ ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಸಲಹಲು ನೀನು ಅಸಂಖ್ಯಾತವಾದ ಅನಂತ ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ಧರಿಸುತ್ತೀಯೆ. ಅಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮದ ಯಾವ ಜ್ಞಾನವೂ ಇಲ್ಲದ, ಒಳ್ಳೆಯದು-ಕೆಟ್ಟದ್ದನ್ನು 'ಒಂದೂ ಅರಿಯದ' ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದೀನನಾದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಹೇಗಾದರೂ ಮಾಡಿ ನೀನೇ ರಕ್ಷಿಸಬೇಕು (ಕಾಯಬೇಕು). ನೀನೇ ನನ್ನ ಅಣ್ಣ, ನೀನೇ ನನ್ನ ತಂದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ನನ್ನ ಸರ್ವಸ್ವವೂ ಆದ ಹೇ ಪುರಂದರ ವಿಠಲ ರಾಯನೇ, ನಿನಗೆ ಶರಣು.

Summary
Composed by Sri Purandara Dasa, the revered father of Haridasa literature, this beautiful kirtana highlights the immense power of the Divine Name and the peace of complete surrender. The saint declares that he desires no worldly wealth or cosmic pleasures; he is completely satisfied with taking shelter at the twin lotus feet of Govinda, the consort of Lakshmi. He recalls how the mere, unintentional chanting of the name "Narayana" chased away the horrific sins of Ajamila, and how the Lord guarded the sages in their deep meditation. In conclusion, the poet praises the Lord who, despite being a single unified reality, assumes infinite forms for His devotees, and begs his personal deity, Lord Purandara Vithala, to protect an ignorant soul like himself.

Meaning: O Govinda, the charmer of Goddess Lakshmi (Indirāramana)! Your twin lotus feet (pāda-dvandvave) are more than enough for me; I need nothing else from this world. Your divine feet are the very ones that broke through the boundaries of the entire cosmic egg (brahmāndava sīlidhantha) during Your Trivikrama incarnation. Your true devotees eternally cherish, cradle, and worship those sacred feet within their hearts.
Charana 1
Nārāyana ninna nāmavu ajamilana ghōrapāpava attitho |
Sāri ninnanubhajipa chāru bhaktharige kōrida varagała nīduva dhātane ॥
Meaning: O Narayana! The power of Your holy name is so immense that it completely chased away (attitho) the horrific, terrifying sins (ghōrapāpava) of Ajamila the moment he called out to his son at the time of death. To the beautiful, earnest devotees (chāru bhaktharige) who approach You and worship You with single-minded devotion, You are the grand donor (dhātane) who grants every single boon they request (kōrida varagała).

Munigału thamma thamma manavane nillisi ghanathara mahima ninna |
Nenevuthiralu avara kāvalāgiruthidde anātharakshaka kārunyamūruthi ॥
Meaning: When the great sages and ascetics quieten their turbulent minds (manavane nillisi) to continuously meditate upon Your exceptionally magnificent glories (ghanathara mahima), You stand right beside them as their personal guardian (kāvalāgiruthidde) to protect their penance. O Protector of the helpless (Anātharakshaka)! You are the absolute embodiment of pure compassion (kārunyamūruthi).
Charana 3
Ondhe mūruthiyāgi endhu iruvanāgi pondidhe anantha rūpavella |
Ondhu ariyadha enna kāyabēkō anna thandhe purandara vithala rāyane ॥
Meaning: O Lord, although You are fundamentally a single Supreme Entity (ondhe mūruthiyāgi) who exists timelessly and eternally, You gracefully adopt infinite, countless forms (anantha rūpavella) for the sake of Your creation. I am completely ignorant, knowing absolutely nothing (ondhu ariyadha) of spiritual paths or righteousness. Please protect me! You are my brother (anna), my father (thandhe), and my absolute sovereign ruler—O King Purandara Vithala.
