ಖ್ಯಾತ ದಾಸವರೇಣ್ಯರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಮಹಿಪತಿ ದಾಸರು ಬರೆದ ಈ ಕೃತಿಯು ಭಗವಂತನಲ್ಲಿ ಶರಣಾಗತಿಯನ್ನು ಬೇಡುವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಮತ್ತು ಅರ್ಥಪೂರ್ಣವಾದ ಪದವಾಗಿದೆ.
ಸಾರಾಂಶ (Summary)
ಈ ಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿಗಳು ಶ್ರೀಹರಿಯ ಮಹಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡಾಡುತ್ತಾ, ತಾನು ಅಪರಾಧಿ, ಮತಿಹೀನ ಹಾಗೂ ದೀನನೆಂದು ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಭಗವಂತನು ಪತಿತಪಾವನನೆಂಬುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ ಆತನ ಪಾದದ ಮೊರೆ ಬಂದಿರುವುದಾಗಿ ಹೇಳುತ್ತಾ, ಅನ್ಯ ಮಾರ್ಗವಿಲ್ಲದ ತನಗೆ ಅಭಯ ನೀಡಿ, ತನ್ನ ಅವಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ, ಮೋಕ್ಷದ ಹಾದಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿಸಿ ಧನ್ಯನನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡು ಎಂದು ಹರಿಯನ್ನು ಮನದುಂಬಿ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.
ಪದ್ಯದ ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ (Stanza-wise Meaning)
೧. ನೀನಹುದೊ ಘನಮಹಿಮ ಮುನಿಜನರೊಡೆಯ ಪೂರ್ಣ
ದೀನದಯಾಳು ನೀನೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೧||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ಎಲೈ ಹರಿಯೇ, ನೀನು ಮಹಾನ್ ಮಹಿಮೆಯುಳ್ಳವನು, ದೊಡ್ಡ ಮುನಿಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠರ ಒಡೆಯನು ಮತ್ತು ಪರಿಪೂರ್ಣನಾದವನು. ಅಸಹಾಯಕರ ಮೇಲೆ ಕರುಣೆ ತೋರುವ ದೀನದಯಾಳು ನೀನೊಬ್ಬನೇ ಆಗಿರುವೆ.
೨. ಪತಿತಪಾವನನೆಂದು ಶ್ರುತಿ ಸಾರುವುದು ಕೇಳಿ
ಅತಿ ಹರುಷದಿಂದಲಿ ಬಂದೆನೊ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೨||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ನೀನು ಪಾಪಿಗಳನ್ನು ಉದ್ಧರಿಸುವ 'ಪತಿತಪಾವನ' ಎಂದು ವೇದಗಳೇ (ಶ್ರುತಿ) ಸಾರುವುದನ್ನು ಕೇಳಿ, ನಿನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇಟ್ಟು ತುಂಬಾ ಸಂತೋಷದಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಅರಸಿ ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
೩. ಮತಿಹೀನನವಗುಣವ ಕ್ಷಿತಿಯೊಳು ನೀ ನೋಡದೆ
ಪಥವಗೊಳಿಸುವುದು ಎನಗೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೩||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ ನಾನು ಮಾಡಿರುವ ತಪ್ಪುಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಗುಣಗಳನ್ನು ನೀನು ಲೆಕ್ಕಿಸಬೇಡ. ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕ್ಷಮಿಸಿ ನನಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾದ ದಾರಿಯನ್ನು (ಮೋಕ್ಷದ ಹಾದಿ) ತೋರಿಸು.
೪. ಮೊರೆಯ ಹೊಕ್ಕಿಹೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಚರಣಕಮಲಕೆ ಪೂರ್ಣ
ಕರುಣದ ಅಭಯ ತೋರೊ ಎನಗೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೪||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾದಕಮಲಗಳಿಗೆ ಶರಣು ಬಂದಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ನಿನ್ನ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಕರುಣೆಯನ್ನು ನನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ತೋರಿ, ನನಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಭಯವಿಲ್ಲದಂತೆ ಅಭಯ ಹಸ್ತವನ್ನು ನೀಡು.
೫. ಅರಿಯೆ ನಾ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಏನಾ ಬ್ಯಾರೆ ಇನ್ನೊಂದು ಪಥ
ಶಿರವ ನಮಿಸಿಹೆನೊ ನಿಮಗೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೫||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ಹರಿಯೇ, ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು ನನಗೆ ಬೇರೆ ಯಾವ ದಾರಿಯೂ (ಮಾರ್ಗ) ತಿಳಿಯದು. ನಾನು ನಿನಗೆ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ತಲೆಬಾಗಿ ನಮಸ್ಕರಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
೬. ಶರಣಾಗತರ ಹೊರೆವ ಬಿರುದು ನಿಮ್ಮದು ಪೂರ್ಣ
ಸಾರುವುದ ತಿಳಕೊಳಲೊಲ್ಲೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೬||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ಶರಣು ಬಂದವರನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸುವುದು ನಿನ್ನ ಘನವಾದ ಬಿರುದು. ಅದು ನನಗೆ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದಿದೆ, ಆದರೂ ಅದನ್ನು ಮತ್ತೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಹೇಳುವಷ್ಟು ಜಾಣ ನಾನಲ್ಲ, ನೀನೇ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಲಹು.
೭. ಬಿಡಲರಿಯೆ ನಾ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಪಿಡಿದು ಶ್ರೀಪಾದವನು
ನೋಡಿ ದಯಮಾಡೊ ಎನಗೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೭||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ಹಿಡಿದುಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇನೆ, ಯಾವುದೇ ಕಾರಣಕ್ಕೂ ಬಿಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ನನ್ನ ಕಡೆಗೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ದೃಷ್ಟಿ ಹರಿಸಿ ನನ್ನ ಮೇಲೆ ದಯೆ ತೋರು.
೮. ಬ್ಯಾರೆ ಗತಿ ಕಾಣೆ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಚರಣಕಮಲದಾಣೆ
ಸಿರಿ ಸಕಲಪದವು ನೀನೆ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೮||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ನಿನ್ನ ಪಾದಕಮಲಗಳ ಮೇಲೆ ಆಣೆಯಿಟ್ಟು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ, ನನಗೆ ನೀನಲ್ಲದೆ ಬೇರೆ ಗತಿಯಿಲ್ಲ. ಸಕಲ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠವಾದ ಸ್ಥಾನಮಾನ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನೀನೇ ಆಗಿರುವೆ.
೯. ಭಿನ್ನವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ನೋಡಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಹಿಪತಿಯ
ಧನ್ಯಗೈಸೊ ನೀ ಪ್ರಾಣವ ಹರಿಯೆ ||೯||
ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ: ಕೊನೆಯದಾಗಿ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನಿಂದ ಬೇರೆಯವನೆಂದು ನೋಡದೆ (ಅನ್ಯ ಭಾವವಿಲ್ಲದೆ), ಈ ಮಹಿಪತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ತೋರಿ, ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಬದುಕನ್ನು ಧನ್ಯಗೊಳಿಸು ಶ್ರೀಹರಿಯೇ.

Verse-wise Meaning
1. You are indeed the Great Glorious One, the Lord of Sages,
The one who is perfectly compassionate to the humble, O Hari.
Meaning: The poet begins by acknowledging that Hari is the Supreme Being, the master of all wise sages, and the only true source of mercy for the downtrodden and the poor.
2. Hearing the Vedas proclaim You as the 'Purifier of the Fallen,'
I have come to You with immense joy, O Hari.
Meaning: Influenced by the sacred scriptures (Shruti) which describe God as Patitapavana (one who uplifts the sinners), the poet feels hopeful and approaches the Lord with a happy heart.
3. Without looking at the faults of this witless soul on this earth,
Please guide me toward the right path, O Hari.
Meaning: He confesses to being "mindless" or ignorant. He begs the Lord not to judge him by his worldly mistakes but to instead show him the way to salvation.
4. I have sought total refuge at Your lotus feet,
Show me the gesture of protection (Abhaya) with mercy, O Hari.
Meaning: He has completely surrendered at the Lord's feet and asks for the divine "Abhaya Mudra"—the blessing that removes all fear.
5. I do not know any other path besides You,
I bow my head in deep salutation to You, O Hari.
Meaning: The poet admits his helplessness and lack of spiritual knowledge. He reaffirms that he has no alternative plan or destination other than God.
6. It is Your great title to protect those who surrender,
I do not wish to merely keep chanting it; please understand me, O Hari.
Meaning: God is famous for the title "Protector of the Surrendered." The poet says he doesn't want to just talk about this reputation; he wants to experience that protection personally.
7. I know not how to let go, having grasped Your holy feet,
Look upon me and grant me Your grace, O Hari.
Meaning: Having finally "caught" the feet of the Lord through devotion, the poet refuses to let go. He pleads for a single glance of compassion.
8. I see no other way, I swear by Your lotus feet,
You are my wealth and my ultimate destination, O Hari.
Meaning: He takes a vow upon the Lord’s feet, stating that he is utterly lost without Him. For the poet, God is the only true treasure and the highest state of being.
9. Look at me without differentiation and look after Mahipathi well,
Make my life/soul blessed and fulfilled, O Hari.
Meaning: In the concluding verse (containing his signature/Ankita Mahipathi), he asks the Lord to see him as His own, remove the sense of separation, and make his existence spiritually successful.
