ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ (Paragraph-wise Meaning)
ಪಲ್ಲವಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಅನುಪಲ್ಲವಿ:
ಕೊಟ್ಟ ಭಾಗ್ಯವೆ ಸಾಕೋ ಶ್ರೀ | ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ದಯಬೇಕೋ ದೇವ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಹೇ ದೇವ, ನೀನು ಈಗಾಗಲೇ ನನಗೆ ಕರುಣಿಸಿರುವ ಈ ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಭಾಗ್ಯವೇ ಸಾಕು. ನನಗೆ ಈಗ ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿ ಸಂಪತ್ತಿಗಿಂತ ನಿನ್ನ (ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನ) ಅಪಾರವಾದ ದಯೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕೃಪಾಕಟಾಕ್ಷ ಮಾತ್ರ ಬೇಕು.
ಚರಣ ೧:
ಸಾಸಿರ ಬಂದರೆ ಶಾಂತಿಯೆಂದರಿತೆನೊ | ಸಾಸಿರ ಬಂದಿತು ಶಾಂತಿ ಕಾಣಲಿಲ್ಲ |

ಅರ್ಥ: ಸಾವಿರಾರು ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಬಂದರೆ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಿಗಬಹುದು ಎಂದು ನಾನು ಭಾವಿಸಿದ್ದೆ. ಆದರೆ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಬಂದ ಮೇಲೆಯೂ ಮನಸ್ಸಿಗೆ ನೆಮ್ಮದಿ ಸಿಗಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಣ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದಂತೆ ಅದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಆತಂಕ ಮತ್ತು ಕಷ್ಟಗಳೂ (ಕ್ಲೇಶ) ಹೆಚ್ಚಾದವು. ಲೌಕಿಕ ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನಿಂದ ಸುಖ ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂದು ನಂಬಿ ನಾನು ಮೋಸಹೋದೆನು.

ಅರ್ಥ: ಗಾಳಿಯನ್ನು ಗುದ್ದಲು ಹೋದರೆ ಕೈಗೆ ಏಟಾಗಿ ಕೀಲು ಮುರಿಯುತ್ತದೆಯೇ ಹೊರತು ಗಾಳಿ ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಅಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದುದರ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ನನ್ನ ಶಕ್ತಿ ವ್ಯಯವಾಯಿತು. ನಾಳಿನ ಊಟದ (ಕೂಳಿನ) ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚಿಂತಿಸುವುದು ವ್ಯರ್ಥ. ಅಸಾಧ್ಯವಾದುದನ್ನು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಗಿಸುವ (ಹುಲಿ ಹಾಲನ್ನು ತರುವಂತಹ ಶಕ್ತಿಯುಳ್ಳ) ಬಾಲಗೋಪಾಲನು ಕಾಲಕಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ನಮಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದುದನ್ನು ನೀಡಿಯೇ ನೀಡುತ್ತಾನೆ. ಆತನ ಮೇಲೆ ನಂಬಿಕೆ ಇಡದೆ ಲೌಕಿಕ ಸುಖದ ಹಿಂದೆ ಬಿದ್ದು ನಾನು ಮೋಸಹೋದೆನು.

ಬೇಡವೆನ್ನುವರಿಗೆ ನೀಡುವ ದೊರೆ ನೀ | ರೂಢಿಯ ಬಲ್ಲೆನೋ ಕಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೊ |

ಅರ್ಥ: ಯಾರು ಏನನ್ನೂ ಬೇಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲವೋ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಬೇಕಾದುದನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಂದು ನೀಡುವ ಉದಾರ ಗುಣ ನಿನ್ನದು. ಲೋಕದ ಈ ರೀತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾನು ಬಲ್ಲೆ, ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಹಣಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ನಾನು ಕಾಡುವುದಿಲ್ಲ (ಪೀಡಿಸುವುದಿಲ್ಲ). ನೀನು ನನಗೆ ಈಗ ನೀಡಿರುವ ಈ ಭಾಗ್ಯವು ನನಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಕೇಡು (ತೊಂದರೆ) ತರದಂತೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡು. ಹೇ ಪ್ರೌಢ ವಿದ್ಯಾಪ್ರಸನ್ನನೇ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸದಾ ನಿನ್ನ ಕೃಪೆಯಲ್ಲಿರಿಸು.

Meaning: O Lord, the life and fortune You have already bestowed upon me are quite enough. I do not crave more material riches; O Krishna, I only pray for Your immense mercy and grace to be upon me.
Stanza 1
Sāsira bandare śāntiyendariiteno | sāsira banditu śānti kāṇalilla |
Sāsira sāsiravēsu bandavō | klēśavu ēritu mōsahōdeno ||
Meaning: I once believed that if thousands (of riches) came my way, I would finally find peace. The thousands came, but peace was nowhere to be found. In fact, as the wealth multiplied, my mental distress (Klesha) and anxieties grew along with it. I now realize I was deceived by the false promise of worldly wealth.
Stanza 2
Gāḷiya guddi kai kīlu mariyito | kēḷuvudillavo nāḷina kūḷanu |
Kālakālake huli hālanu turutiha | bālagōpālana kēḷi mōsahōde ||
Meaning: Trying to find happiness in material things is as futile as trying to "punch the wind"—you only end up hurting your own joints without catching anything. It is useless to worry about tomorrow's food. The Lord, who is capable of the impossible (like bringing a tiger's milk), provides exactly what is needed at the right time. I was foolish to overlook Bala Gopala and chase after shadows.

Bēḍavennuvarige nīḍuva dore nī | rūḍhiya ballenō kāḍuvudillavo |
Nīḍida bhāgyavu kēḍutarade kā | pāḍabēkelo prauḍha prasannane ||
Meaning: You are a King who bestows gifts even upon those who do not ask. I know this is Your nature, so I will not pester (disturb) You with petty requests for money. My only request, O wise and gracious Prasanna, is that the fortune You have already given me remains a blessing and does not turn into a source of ruin (Keda). Keep me always under Your protection.
