ಮಹಿಪತಿ ದಾಸರ ಈ ಕೀರ್ತನೆ ಭಗವಂತನಲ್ಲಿ ರಕ್ಷಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಮೊರೆ ಇಡುವ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಆಪ್ತವಾದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದರ ಸಾರಾಂಶ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದ್ಯದ ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ:
ಸಾರಾಂಶ (Summary)
ಈ ಕೀರ್ತನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕವಿಯು ಭಗವಂತನನ್ನು 'ಭಕ್ತವತ್ಸಲ' (ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಸುವವನು) ಎಂದು ಸಂಬೋಧಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ತನಗೆ ಎದುರಾಗಿರುವ ಭಯ ಮತ್ತು ಸಂಕಷ್ಟಗಳಿಂದ ಪಾರುಮಾಡಲು ಬೇಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ. "ನೀನೇ ನನ್ನ ತಾಯಿ, ತಂದೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸರ್ವಸ್ವ" ಎಂದು ಶರಣಾಗತಿ ಭಾವವನ್ನು ವ್ಯಕ್ತಪಡಿಸುತ್ತಾ, ಹಿಂದೆ ಅಸಂಖ್ಯಾತ ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ಸಲಹಿದಂತೆ ತನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಕೂಡ ಈ ಭವಬಂಧನದಿಂದ ಬಿಡಿಸಿ ಕಾಯಬೇಕೆಂದು ಭಗವಂತನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊರೆಯಿಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
ಪ್ರತಿ ಪದ್ಯದ ಅರ್ಥ (Verse-wise Meaning)
ಪಲ್ಲವಿ:
ಇಂದು ಕಾಯಲಾ ಭಕ್ತವತ್ಸಲಾ | ಬಂದು ಒದಗಿ ನಿಂದು ಭಯವ ದೂರ ಮಾಡೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಭಕ್ತರ ಮೇಲೆ ವಾತ್ಸಲ್ಯವುಳ್ಳವನೇ, ಇಂದು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡು. ನೀನು ಬಂದು ನನ್ನ ಹತ್ತಿರ ನಿಂತು, ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಸಕಲ ಭಯಗಳನ್ನು ದೂರ ಮಾಡು ತಂದೆ.
ಚರಣ ೧:
ಮೊರೆಯ ಕೇಳೆಲಾ ಹರಿಯೆ ನಿಶ್ಚಲಾ | ಕರುಣದಿಂದ ಒದಗಿ ಬೇಗ ದುರಿತ ಹರಿಸೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಚಲನೆಯಿಲ್ಲದ (ಸ್ಥಿರವಾದ) ಸತ್ಯವಾಗಿರುವ ಹರಿಯೇ, ನನ್ನ ಮೊರೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಳು. ಕರುಣೆಯಿಂದ ಬೇಗನೆ ಬಂದು ನನ್ನ ಪಾಪಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು (ದುರಿತ) ಪರಿಹರಿಸು.
ಚರಣ ೨:
ಸುಳುಹುದೋರೆಲಾ ಹೊಳೆದು ವಿಠ್ಠಲಾ | ಖಳರ ಕೈಯ ಸೆಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಬಲೆಯ ಬಿಡಿಸೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ವಿಠ್ಠಲನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ದರ್ಶನದ ಸುಳಿವನ್ನು ನೀಡು. ದುಷ್ಟರ ಕೈಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿ, ಈ ಸಂಸಾರವೆಂಬ ಮಾಯೆಯ ಬಲೆಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಬಿಡಿಸು.
ಚರಣ ೩:
ತಂದೆ ನೀನೆಲಾ ತಾಯಿ ನೀನೆಲಾ | ಬಂಧು ಬಳಗ ದೈವ ಕುಲಕೋಟಿ ನೀನೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ನನಗೆ ತಂದೆಯೂ ನೀನೇ, ತಾಯಿಯೂ ನೀನೇ. ನನ್ನ ಬಂಧು-ಬಳಗ, ನನ್ನ ದೇವರು ಮತ್ತು ಕೋಟಿ ಕುಲದೈವಗಳೂ ಎಲ್ಲವೂ ನೀನೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದೀಯೆ. (ಪೂರ್ಣ ಶರಣಾಗತಿ).
ಚರಣ ೪:
ಹಿಂದೆ ಶರಣರ ಬಂದು ಕಾಯ್ದೆಲಾ | ಸಂದು ವಿಘ್ನದೊಳು ಬಂದು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಹಿಂದೆ ನಿನಗೆ ಶರಣಾದ ಭಕ್ತರನ್ನು ನೀನು ಬಂದು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದ್ದೀಯೆ. ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಥವಾ ವಿಘ್ನಗಳು ಎದುರಾದಾಗ ಬಂದು ಅವರನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡಿದ್ದೀಯೆ, ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಕಾಪಾಡು.
ಚರಣ ೫:
ಅಂದು ಒದಗಿ ನೀ ಬಂದು ಪರಿಯಲಾ | ಇಂದು ಅಭಿಮಾನ ಕಾವ ಬಿರುದು ನಿನದೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಂದು ಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದವರಿಗೆ ಹೇಗೆ ಸಹಾಯ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೆಯೋ, ಇಂದು ನನ್ನ ಮೇಲಿನ ಅಭಿಮಾನದಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಯುವ ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿ ನಿನ್ನದು. 'ಭಕ್ತರ ರಕ್ಷಕ' ಎಂಬ ಬಿರುದು ನಿನಗೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದು, ಅದನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸಿಕೊ.
ಚರಣ ೬:
ದೀನಜನರಿಗೇ ದಾತ ನೀನೆಲಾ | ಅಣುಗ ನಿನ್ನ ದಾಸನೆಂದು ಪ್ರಾಣನುಳುಹೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಸಹಾಯಕರಿಗೆ ದಾನ ನೀಡುವ ದಾತ ನೀನು. ನಾನು ನಿನ್ನ ಪುಟ್ಟ ದಾಸನೆಂದು ಭಾವಿಸಿ, ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರಾಣವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ಆತ್ಮವನ್ನು ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದಿಂದ ಉಳಿಸು.

ಪುಣ್ಯಪ್ರಭೆಯದಾ ಕಣ್ಣದೆರಿಯಲಾ | ಧನ್ಯಗೈಸಿ ಮಹಿಪತಿ ಮಾತ ಮನ್ನಿಸೆಲಾ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ನಿನ್ನ ಪುಣ್ಯದ ಬೆಳಕಿನಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಕಣ್ಣುಗಳನ್ನು (ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಕಣ್ಣು) ತೆರೆಯುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡು. ಈ ಮಹಿಪತಿಯ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯನ್ನು ಮನ್ನಿಸಿ, ನನ್ನ ಜನ್ಮವನ್ನು ಧನ್ಯಗೊಳಿಸು.

Summary
The hymn is a soulful prayer where the devotee seeks refuge in the Almighty (addressed as Vithala and Hari). Indu kaayala bhaktavatsala | Bandu odagi nindu bhayava doora maadela ||
Meaning: O Protector of devotees (Bhaktavatsala), protect me today. Come to my side, stand by me, and drive away all my fears.
Verse 1:
Moreya kelela hariye nishchala | Karunadinda odagi bega durita harisela ||
Meaning: O unshakable Lord Hari, listen to my cry. With your infinite compassion, arrive quickly and destroy my sins and miseries.
Verse 2:
Suluhudorela holedu viththala | Khalara kaiya seledukondu baleya bidisela ||
Meaning: O Vithala, show me a glimpse of Your presence. Snatch me away from the hands of the wicked and release me from the net of worldly illusions.
Verse 3:
Tande neenela taayi neenela | Bandhu balaga daiva kulakoti neenela ||
Meaning: You are my father, and You are my mother. You are my kinsman, my family, my God, and the deity of all lineages. You are my everything.
Verse 4:
Hinde sharanara bandu kaaydela | Sandu vighnadolu bandu rakshisidela ||
Meaning: In the past, You have always come to the rescue of those who sought refuge. Whenever they were trapped in obstacles, You arrived to protect them.
Verse 5:
Andu odagi nee bandu pariyala | Indu abhimaana kaava birudu ninadela ||
Meaning: Just as You helped them then, help me now. You carry the "title" of being the one who guards the honor of His devotees; please uphold that title today.
Verse 6:
Deenajanarige daata neenela | Anuga ninna daasanendu praananuluhela ||
Meaning: You are the ultimate giver to the humble and the needy. Treat me as Your small, dear servant and save my life/soul.
Verse 7:
Punnyaprabheyada kannaderiyala | Dhanyagaisi mahipati maata mannisela ||
Meaning: Open my eyes with the radiance of virtue and divine knowledge. Make my life blessed and fulfill the humble request of this poet, Mahipati.
