Pronunciation Guide

ā, ī, ū, ē, ō: Extended vowels. Hold these sounds twice as long as short vowels (e.g., ā sounds like the "a" in "father", ī sounds like the "ee" in "meet", ō sounds like the "o" in "boat").

a, i, u, e, o: Short vowels. Pronounce them quickly (e.g., a sounds like the "u" in "but", i sounds like the "i" in "pin").

ಒಟ್ಟಾರೆ ಸಾರಾಂಶ

ಈ ಕೀರ್ತನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಜಯದಾಸರು ಶಿವನ (ರುದ್ರದೇವರ) ವಿವಿಧ ಮಹಿಮೆಗಳನ್ನು, ರೂಪಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಂಡಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಶಿವನು ದುಷ್ಟರಿಗೆ ರೌದ್ರಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾದರೂ ಭಕ್ತರಿಗೆ ದಯಾಸಮುದ್ರನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಆತನು ತ್ರಿಪುರಾಸುರರನ್ನು ಗೆದ್ದವನು, ಮನ್ಮಥನನ್ನು ದಹಿಸಿದವನು ಮತ್ತು ಮೃತ್ಯುಭಯವನ್ನು ನಿವಾರಿಸುವವನಾಗಿದ್ದಾನೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಮುಖ್ಯವಾಗಿ, ಶಿವನು ತನ್ನ ಜಟಾಜೂಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಗಂಗೆಯನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿ, ಹೃದಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಹರಿಯ (ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ) ಪಾದಪದ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸುತ್ತಿರುತ್ತಾನೆ. ದಾಸರು ಶಿವನನ್ನು ನಮ್ಮ "ಮನೋನಿಯಾಮಕ ಗುರು" (ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ನಿಯಂತ್ರಿಸುವ ಗುರು) ಎಂದು ಸಂಬೋಧಿಸಿ, ಲೌಕಿಕ ರೋಗ-ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನು ದೂರಮಾಡಿ, ತನ್ನ ಅಂತರ್ಯಾಮಿಯಾದ ವಿಜಯವಿಠ್ಠಲನ ನಾಮಾಮೃತವನ್ನು ಉಣಿಸು (ಜ್ಞಾನ ಭಕ್ತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕರುಣಿಸು) ಎಂದು ದೈನ್ಯದಿಂದ ಬೇಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪ್ರತಿ ಚರಣದ ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ

ಪಲ್ಲವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅನುಪಲ್ಲವಿ

ರುದ್ರಾ ವೀರಭದ್ರ ಅದ್ರಿನಂದನೆ ರಮಣಾ ಪ

ರೌದ್ರ ಮೂರುತಿ ದಯಾಸಮುದ್ರ ಎನ್ನನು ಕಾಣೊ ಅ. ಪ.

ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ:

ರುದ್ರನೇ, ವೀರಭದ್ರನೇ, ಪರ್ವತರಾಜನ ಮಗಳಾದ ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿಯ (ಅದ್ರಿನಂದನೆ) ಪ್ರಿಯನೇ (ರಮಣಾ)! ದುಷ್ಟರನ್ನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಿಸುವಾಗ ನೀನು ಭಯಂಕರವಾದ ರೌದ್ರಮೂರ್ತಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ನಂಬಿದ ಭಕ್ತರ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ನೀನು ಕರುಣೆಯ ಕಡಲು (ದಯಾಸಮುದ್ರ). ಅಂತಹ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯೇ, ಕೃಪಾದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ಸಲಹು.

ಮೊದಲನೆಯ ಚರಣ

ಮುಪ್ಪುರವ ಗೆದ್ದ ಮುಕ್ಕಣ್ಣ ಮನ್ಮಥ ವೈರಿ

ಸರ್ಪಭೂಷಣ ಮೃತ್ಯು ನಿವಾರಣ ವಾಕು

ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ:

ಮೂರು ಪುರಗಳನ್ನು (ತ್ರಿಪುರಾಸುರರನ್ನು) ಸಂಹರಿಸಿ ಗೆದ್ದ ಮುಕ್ಕಣ್ಣನೇ (ಮೂರು ಕಣ್ಣುಳ್ಳವನೇ), ಕಾಮನನ್ನು ಸೀಳಿದ ಮನ್ಮಥ ವೈರಿಯೇ, ಸರ್ಪಗಳನ್ನೇ ಆಭರಣವಾಗಿ ಧರಿಸಿರುವವನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ವಾಕ್ಯವು ಅಥವಾ ಸ್ಮರಣೆಯು ಮೃತ್ಯುಭಯವನ್ನೇ ನಿವಾರಿಸಬಲ್ಲದು. ಹಾಲಾಹಲವನ್ನು ನುಂಗಿ ಕಪ್ಪು ಕಂಠ ಉಳ್ಳವನಾದ ನೀಲಕಂಠನೇ (ಕಪ್ಪುಗೊರಳ), ಗಜಚರ್ಮವನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿದವನೇ (ಕೃತ್ತಿವಾಸ), ಆಕಾಶವೇ ಕೇಶವಾಗಿ ಉಳ್ಳ ವ್ಯೋಮಕೇಶನೇ! ಭಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಒಲಿದು, ದಾಸನಾದ ಈ ನನ್ನ ಸೇವೆಯನ್ನು (ಅಥವಾ ಈ ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥನೆಯನ್ನು) ನೀನು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಒಪ್ಪಿಕೊಳ್ಳಬೇಕು.

ಎರಡನೆಯ ಚರಣ

ಸದ್ಯೋಜಾತ ಭೂತನಾಥ ಭಕುತರದಾತ

ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ:

ಶಿವನ ಪಂಚಮುಖಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಾದ 'ಸದ್ಯೋಜಾತ' ರೂಪದವನೇ, ಸಮಸ್ತ ಜೀವರಾಶಿಗಳ ಒಡೆಯನಾದ ಭೂತನಾಥನೇ, ಭಕ್ತರು ಕೇಳಿದ್ದನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ದಾತನೇ! ಸೂರ್ಯನಂತೆ (ಖದ್ಯೋತ) ಪ್ರಕಾಶಮಾನವಾದ ಸೌಂದರ್ಯವುಳ್ಳವನೇ, ದೇವತೆಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನಾದ ಬ್ರಹ್ಮದೇವರ (ಸುರಜ್ಯೇಷ್ಠ) ಐದನೆಯ ತಲೆಯನ್ನು ಸೀಳಿದವನೇ (ಬ್ರಹ್ಮಕಪಾಲವನ್ನು ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದವನೇ), ಜಟಾಜೂಟವನ್ನು ಧರಿಸಿದ ಮಹಾ ಧೀರನೇ (ಬಲು ಧಿಟ್ಟ)! ನೀನು ಸರ್ವೋತ್ತಮನಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಷ್ಣುವಿನ ಪಾದಪದ್ಮಗಳನ್ನು ನಿನ್ನ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಹೃದಯದೊಳಗೆ (ಹೃದ್ಯದೊಳಗೆ) ಸದಾ ಇಟ್ಟುಕೊಂಡು ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವೆ.

ಮೂರನೆಯ ಚರಣ

ಮನೋನಿಯಾಮಕ ಗುರುವೆ ದೈನ್ಯದಿಂದಲಿ ಕರೆವೆ

ಜನಿಸಿ ಕಾಡುವ ರೋಗ ಕಳೆಯೊ ಬೇಗ

ಭಾವಾರ್ಥ:

ನಮ್ಮ ಮನಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಸನ್ಮಾರ್ಗಕ್ಕೆ ನಡೆಸುವ 'ಮನೋನಿಯಾಮಕ' ಗುರುವಾಗಿರುವವನೇ, ನಿನ್ನನ್ನು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದೈನ್ಯತೆಯಿಂದ (ನಮ್ರತೆಯಿಂದ) ಪ್ರಾರ್ಥಿಸಿ ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಸಂಸಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಟ್ಟಿ ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಕಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವ ಆಧಿ-ವ್ಯಾಧಿಗಳನ್ನು (ಭವ ರೋಗಗಳನ್ನು ಮತ್ತು ದೈಹಿಕ ರೋಗಗಳನ್ನು) ಬೇಗನೆ ದೂರಮಾಡು. ಮುಖ್ಯಪ್ರಾಣ ದೇವರ (ಮರುತ) ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬದಂತಿರುವ ಸಾಂಬಶಿವನೇ (ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ಸಮೇತನಾದ ಶಿವನೇ), ಸಾಟಿಯಿಲ್ಲದ (ಅನುಪಮ) ನಿನ್ನ ಅಂತರ್ಯಾಮಿಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ವಿಜಯವಿಠ್ಠಲನ ನಾಮವೆಂಬ ಅಮೃತವನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಉಣಿಸು, ಅಂದರೆ ಭಗವಂತನ ಭಕ್ತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಜ್ಞಾನವನ್ನು ನನಗೆ ಕರುಣಿಸು ಪ್ರಭು.

Overall Summary

In this devotional song (Keertana), Sri Vijaya Dasaru praises the divine glories and various forms of Lord Shiva (Rudradeva). He illustrates that while Shiva manifests as a fierce form (Raudra Murti) to destroy evil, he is an ocean of compassion (Daya Samudra) toward his devotees. Shiva is the conqueror of Tripurasura, the destroyer of Manmatha (Cupid), and the dispeller of the fear of death. Above all, he carries the holy river Ganga in his matted hair while continuously meditating upon the lotus feet of Lord Sri Hari (Vishnu) in his heart. Meaning:

O Lord Rudra, O Veerabhadra, O beloved consort (Ramana) of Goddess Parvati, the daughter of the mountain (Adrinandana)! Although You assume a terrifying, fierce form (Raudra Murti) to punish the wicked, You are an absolute ocean of mercy (Daya Samudra) to those who believe in You. O Lord, turn Your compassionate gaze upon me and protect me.

First Charana

Muppurava gedda mukkaṇṇa manmatha vairi |

Sarpabhūṣaṇa mr̥tyu nivāraṇa vāku |

Kappugoṛala kr̥ttivāsa vyōmakēśa |

Oppikoḷḷabēkō olidu ī vāśa || 1 ||

Meaning:

O three-eyed Lord (Mukkanna) who conquered the three demonic cities (Tripura), O adversary of Manmatha (the God of Love, whom you burnt to ashes)! You wear venomous serpents as Your ornaments (Sarpa-bhooshana), and Your very word or remembrance dispels the ultimate fear of death. O blue-throated Lord (Kappugorala) who held the deadly Halahala poison in Your neck, O wearer of the elephant hide (Kritti-vasa), O one whose hair spreads across the skies (Vyoma-kesha)! Shaking off my shortcomings, please look upon this servant with affection and lovingly accept my humble prayers.

Second Charana

Khadyōta lāvaṇya surajyēṣṭhana |

Meaning:

O Supreme Being who manifests as Sadyojata (one of Shiva's five cosmic faces), O Lord of all living entities (Bhutanatha), O generous granter of the desires of Your devotees! You possess a dazzling beauty that radiates like the sun (Khadyota). You cut off the arrogant fifth head of Brahma, the eldest among the demigods (Surajyeshtha). O courageous and mighty Lord (Balu Dhitta) with majestic matted locks (Jata-juta), You hold the sacred lotus feet of Lord Sri Vishnu eternally inside Your beautiful and loving heart (Hridya), lost in perpetual meditation.

Third Charana

Manōniyamaka guruve dainyandinda li kareve |

Anupama vijayaviṭhṭhalana nāmāmr̥tava |

Enaguṇisuvudō sāmbu maruta pratibimba || 3 ||

Meaning:

O master who regulates and guides our thoughts on the right path (Mano-niyamaka Guru), I call out to You with deep humility and helplessness. Quickly cure and remove the painful spiritual and physical diseases that plague me in this cycle of worldly birth. O Samba-Shiva (Shiva accompanied by Amba/Parvati), You shine like the reflection (Pratibimba) of Mukhyaprana (the Wind God, Maruta). I beg You to feed me the matchless (Anupama) nectar of the holy name of Your internal ruler, Lord Sri Vijaya Vitthala—blessing me with ultimate spiritual wisdom and pure devotion.
