ಹರಿದಾಸ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯದ ಆದ್ಯ ಪ್ರವರ್ತಕರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರಾಜರು ತಮ್ಮ ಪರಮ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ ಶಿಷ್ಯರಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ವ್ಯಾಸತೀರ್ಥರನ್ನು (ಶ್ರೀ ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಜರನ್ನು) ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಿಂದ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ಕೊಂಡಾಡಿ ರಚಿಸಿರುವ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಕೀರ್ತನೆ ಇದಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಬ್ಬ ಗುರುಗಳು ತಮ್ಮ ಶಿಷ್ಯನ ಜ್ಞಾನ, ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ತಪಃಶಕ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಾರುಹೋಗಿ ಇಡೀ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ಆತನಿಗೆ ಸಾಟಿಯಾದವರು ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ ಎಂದು ಮುಕ್ತಕಂಠದಿಂದ ಶ್ಲಾಘಿಸಿರುವುದು ಈ ಕೃತಿಯ ವಿಶೇಷ. ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಜರು ಕುತರ್ಕಗಳೆಂಬ ಕತ್ತಲನ್ನು ಸೀಳುವ ಸೂರ್ಯನಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ, ವಿರೋಧಿ ವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅಡಗಿಸುವ ಸಿಂಹಸ್ವರೂಪಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಮತ್ತು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಹಂಕಾರವನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ತೊರೆದು ಕೇವಲ ಪರಮಾತ್ಮನ ಧ್ಯಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಳುಗಿರುವ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಮುನಿವರೇಣ್ಯರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂದು ಶ್ರೀಪಾದರಾಜರು ತಮ್ಮ ಅಂಕಿತವಾದ 'ರಂಗವಿಠಲ'ನ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಂಡಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ.

ಪಲ್ಲವಿ - ಅನುಪಲ್ಲವಿ

ಇದಿರದಾವನು ನಿನಗೆ ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಯಾ ॥

ಈ ಧರೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಸರಿಗಾಣೆ ಯತಿರಾಯಾ ॥

ಅರ್ಥ: ಹೇ ಯತಿಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನಾದ ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಯನೇ (ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಜ ಗುರುಸಾರ್ವಭೌಮರೇ)! ಜ್ಞಾನದಲ್ಲಿ, ತಪಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನಿನಗೆ ಎದುರಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಬಲ್ಲವರು (ಇದಿರದಾವನು) ಈ ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾರು ತಾನೇ ಇದ್ದಾರೆ? ಖಂಡಿತವಾಗಿಯೂ ಯಾರೂ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಇಡೀ ಭೂಮಂಡಲದಲ್ಲಿ (ಈ ಧರೆಯೊಳಗೆ) ನಿನಗೆ ಸಮಾನರಾದವರನ್ನು (ಸರಿಗಾಣೆ) ನಾನು ಎಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ, ನೀನೇ ಅದ್ವಿತೀಯ ಯತಿರಾಯನು.

ಚರಣ 1

ವಾದಿತಿಮಿರ ಮಾರ್ತಾಂಡನೆಂದೆನಿಸಿದೆ ।

ವಾದಿಶರಭ ಭೇರುಂಡ ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಯಾ ॥ 1 ॥

ಅರ್ಥ: ತಪ್ಪು ಸಿದ್ಧಾಂತಗಳನ್ನು ಮಂಡಿಸುವ ವಿರೋಧಿ ವಾದಿಗಳೆಂಬ ಕತ್ತಲನ್ನು (ವಾದಿತಿಮಿರ) ಸೀಳಿ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಬೆಳಕನ್ನು ಚೆಲ್ಲುವ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ಸೂರ್ಯನಂತೆ (ಮಾರ್ತಾಂಡನೆಂದೆನಿಸಿದೆ) ನೀನು ಪ್ರಕಾಶಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀಯೆ. ಹಠವಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಮೆಟ್ಟಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಲು ಶರಭ ಮತ್ತು ಗಂಡಭೇರುಂಡ ಪಕ್ಷಿಯಂತೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪರಾಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿಯಾಗಿ ವಿರೋಧಿಗಳ ಮದವನ್ನು ಅಡಗಿಸುವ ಹೇ ವ್ಯಾಸರಾಯನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ತರ್ಕಶಕ್ತಿ ಅಪ್ರತಿಮವಾದದ್ದು.

ಚರಣ 2

ಯತಿಗಳೊಳು ನಿನ್ನಂಥವರುಗಳನ್ನು ।

ಪ್ರತಿಗಾಣೆನು ಈ ಕ್ಷಿತಿಯೊಳಗೆ ಯತಿರಾಯಾ ॥ 2 ॥

ಅರ್ಥ: ಈ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಇರುವ ನೂರಾರು ಜನ ಸನ್ಯಾಸಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಹಾನ್ ತಪಸ್ವಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (ಯತಿಗಳೊಳು), ನಿನ್ನಂತೆ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಮತ್ತು ವೈರಾಗ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಇನ್ನೊಬ್ಬ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಯತಿಯನ್ನು ನಾನು ಎಲ್ಲೂ ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಭೂಮಂಡಲದಲ್ಲಿ (ಈ ಕ್ಷಿತಿಯೊಳಗೆ) ನಿನ್ನ ಸ್ಥಾನಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರತಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿಲ್ಲಬಲ್ಲ (ಪ್ರತಿಗಾಣೆನು) ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿ ಸಿಗಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.

ಚರಣ 3

ಹಮ್ಮನಳಿದು ಸಿರಿಪತಿ ರಂಗವಿಠ್ಠಲನ ।

ಸುಮ್ಮನದಲಿ ಭಜಿಪ ವ್ಯಾಸಮುನಿರಾಯಾ ॥ 3 ||

ಅರ್ಥ: ಇಷ್ಟೊಂದು ಅಗಾಧವಾದ ಪಾಂಡಿತ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಕೀರ್ತಿ ಇದ್ದರೂ ಸಹ, ಎಳ್ಳಷ್ಟೂ ಅಹಂಕಾರ ಅಥವಾ ಗರ್ವ ಪಡದೇ, ತನ್ನ "ನಾನು" ಎಂಬ ಹಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣವಾಗಿ ನಾಶಮಾಡಿ (ಹಮ್ಮನಳಿದು), ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀಪತಿಯಾದ ಆ ಶ್ರೀ ರಂಗವಿಠಲನನ್ನು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಶಾಂತವಾದ, ಪ್ರಶಾಂತವಾದ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಿಂದ (ಸುಮ್ಮನದಲಿ) ಸದಾ ಭಜಿಸುವ ಹೇ ವ್ಯಾಸಮುನಿರಾಯನೇ, ನಿನ್ನ ವಿಧೇಯತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಭಕ್ತಿ ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲ ಆದರ್ಶವಾಗಿದೆ.

It is a beautiful historical example of a spiritual guru openly celebrating the unmatched intellect, wisdom, and spiritual authority of his own disciple. Sripadarajaru declares that there is absolutely no ascetic on this earth who can equal Vyasaraja. He praises him as a sun that dispels the darkness of flawed arguments, a fierce force against arrogant debaters, and a flawless sage who has completely erased his ego to worship Lord Rangavithala with a serene mind.

Pallavi - Anupallavi

Idiradāvanu ninage vyāsarāyā ॥

Ī dhareyolage sarigāne yathirāyā ॥

Meaning: O King among ascetics, Vyasaraja! Who could possibly stand before you as an equal (idiradāvanu) in pure wisdom, logic, and spiritual power? In this entire wide world (ī dhareyolage), I look around and find absolutely no one who can match your greatness (sarigāne). You stand truly unparalleled.

Charana 1

Vādithimira mārthāndanendenisidhe ।

Vādisharabha bhērunda vyāsarāyā ॥ 1 ॥

Meaning: You have risen like a brilliant sun (mārthānda) to pierce and destroy the blinding darkness cast by flawed, speculative debaters (vādithimira). To silence stubborn and arrogant opposing philosophers, you act with the unstoppable power of the mythical Sharabha and Bherunda birds (vādisharabha bhērunda). Your mastery over philosophical debate is truly formidable, O Vyasaraja.

Charana 2

Yathigalolu ninnanthavarugalanu ।

Prathigānenu ī kshithiyolage yathirāyā ॥ 2 ॥

Meaning: Among all the numerous monks, saints, and ascetics (yathigalolu) traversing this earth, I cannot find a single person who can be a matching counterpart to you (prathigānenu). In this entire landscape of human existence (ī kshithiyolage), your spiritual caliber remains unmatched.

Charana 3

Hammanalidu siripathi rangavithlana ।

Summanadhali bhajipa vyāsamunirāyā ॥ 3 ॥

Meaning: Despite wielding immense scholarly renown and royal influence, you have completely crushed even the slightest trace of personal ego or pride (hammanalidu). With a perfectly still, serene, and tranquil mind (summanadhali), you remain endlessly absorbed in singing the glories of Lord Rangavithala, the consort of Lakshmi. O great sage Vyasara, your deep humility is a guiding light for us all.
