ಅರ್ಥ: ಸಂಪತ್ತಿನ ಒಡೆಯನಾದ ಶ್ರೀನಿವಾಸನೇ, ನನ್ನನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸು. ಕಮಲದಂತಹ ಕಣ್ಣುಳ್ಳವನೇ, ಮೂರೂ ಲೋಕಗಳ ಅಧಿಪತಿಯೇ, ದುಷ್ಟರನ್ನು ಶಿಕ್ಷಿಸುವವನೇ ಮತ್ತು ಪಾಂಡವರ ಪಕ್ಷಪಾತಿಯೇ (ಅರ್ಜುನನ ಸಖ), ನಿನ್ನ ವಾಹನವಾದ ಗರುಡನನ್ನೇರಿ ಬಂದು, ನಿನ್ನ ಕರುಣಾಪೂರಿತ ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಸಲಹು.

ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಲ್ಪ ಬುದ್ಧಿಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ಕೆಟ್ಟ ಜನರ ಸಹವಾಸ ಮಾಡಿ, ಅವರಂತೆ ತಿರುಗಾಡಿ ಇಂದು ಅಸಹಾಯಕನಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ಮನ್ಮಥನ ಬಾಣಗಳಿಗೆ (ಲೌಕಿಕ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಗಳಿಗೆ) ಸೋತು, ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರ ಚಂಚಲ ನೋಟದ ಮಿಂಚಿಗೆ ಮರುಳಾಗಿ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ದಾರಿ ತಪ್ಪಿದೆ. ಈ ಮೋಹದ ಜಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಲುಕಿ ಹೈರಾಣಾಗಿ, ಈಗ ಮೃತ್ಯುವಿನ (ಯಮನ) ದಾರಿಯ ಹತ್ತಿರ ಬಂದು ನಿಂತಿದ್ದೇನೆ. ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡು.

ಅರ್ಥ: ತುಕ್ಕು ಹಿಡಿದ ಕಬ್ಬಿಣದಂತೆ ನನ್ನ ಮನಸ್ಸು ಪಾಪದ ಕೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಿದ್ದಿದೆ. ಧೀರನಾದ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಹಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಅರಿಯದೆ, ಕೇವಲ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಪಾಡಿಗಾಗಿ (ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಗೋಸುಗ) ಕೆಟ್ಟ ದಾರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆದು ಹಾಳಾದೆ. ದುಷ್ಟರ ಕಾಲಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದು, ಅವರಿಂದ ಅಪಮಾನಿತನಾಗಿ, ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಶ್ರಮಪಟ್ಟು ಮನಸ್ಸು ಕಂಗೆಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಲ್ಮಶವನ್ನು ತೊಳೆದು ನನ್ನನ್ನು ಉದ್ದರಿಸು.

ಅರ್ಥ: ಕಮಲೇಶನ (ಬ್ರಹ್ಮನ) ಹೃದಯವೆಂಬ ಕಮಲಕ್ಕೆ ಸೂರ್ಯನಂತಿರುವ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಮಾನವಾದ ಶ್ರೀಹರಿಯೇ, ಇನ್ನೇಕೆ ತಡ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀಯ? ನನ್ನ ಮೊರೆಯನ್ನು ಆಲಿಸಿ, ಬೇಗ ಬಂದು ಪ್ರೀತಿಯಿಂದ ನನ್ನ ಕೈ ಹಿಡಿ. ಹಿಂದೆ ದಾರಿದ್ರ್ಯದಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಕುಚೇಲನನ್ನು ನೀನು ಹೇಗೆ ಸಲಹಿದೆಯೋ, ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ನನ್ನನ್ನೂ ಪೊರೆ. ಮಂಗಳವನ್ನುಂಟುಮಾಡುವ ಹೇ ಜಗನ್ನಾಥವಿಠಲ, ನಿನಗೆ ಶರಣು.

Meaning: Due to my limited intellect, I joined the company of wicked people and wandered aimlessly, becoming miserable and helpless. Deceived by the arrows of the God of Love (sensual desires), my mind was led astray by the fleeting "lightning-like" glances of worldly attractions. Because of this deception, I have wasted my life and now find myself at the very doorstep of Death (Yama).

Kittagattida kabbinadante ketta kilbishada koopadi biddu... Pattu na kangette pratidina || 2 ||
Meaning: Like iron covered in thick rust, I have fallen into a deep well of foul sins. Unable to understand the secret of Your divine courage and majesty, I ruined myself just to satisfy my stomach (material needs). By bowing to the feet of wicked men for survival, I have endured great hardship and exhaustion, leaving me broken and confused every single day.
Charana 3
Shri Kamalesha hrutpadmadineshaprakasha begane bandu... Shrikara Jagannathavithala || 3 ||
Meaning: O Lord who shines like the sun upon the heart-lotus of Brahma (Kamalesha), come quickly! Why do You delay? Listen to my words and hold my hand with care and affection. Just as You took care of Kuchela (when he came to You in poverty), nourish and protect me too. O auspicious Jagannatha Vithala, You are my only refuge.
The comparison to "rusted iron" is a powerful metaphor for a soul weighed down by past actions.
