ಇದು 12ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ಶಿವಶರಣೆ ಅಕ್ಕಮಹಾದೇವಿಯವರ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧವಾದ ವಚನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು. ಈ ವಚನವು ಲೌಕಿಕ ರೂಪದ ಕನಸಿನ ಮೂಲಕ ಅಲೌಕಿಕವಾದ ದೈವ ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ಕಾರವನ್ನು ವರ್ಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.
ಸಾರಾಂಶ (Summary)

ಅರ್ಥ: ಅಕ್ಕಾ ಕೇಳು, ನಾನು ಇಂದು ಒಂದು ವಿಚಿತ್ರವಾದ ಹಾಗೂ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಕನಸನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು. (ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅಕ್ಕ ಎಂದರೆ ಸಹೋದರಿ ಅಥವಾ ಸಖಿ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥೈಸಬಹುದು).
ಚರಣ 1 (ಮದುವೆಯ ಸಂಕೇತಗಳು)
ಅಕ್ಕಿ ಅಡಕೆ ಓಲೆ ತೆಂಗಿನಕಾಯಿ ಕಂಡೆ |
ಕೇಳವ್ವ ನಾನೊಂದು ಕನಸ ಕಂಡೆ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಕನಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮದುವೆಯ ಶುಭ ಸಮಾರಂಭಕ್ಕೆ ಬೇಕಾದ ಅಕ್ಕಿ, ಅಡಿಕೆ, ಓಲೆ (ತಾಳೆಗರಿಯ ಒಲೆ ಅಥವಾ ಕಿವಿಯ ಓಲೆ) ಮತ್ತು ತೆಂಗಿನಕಾಯಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು. ಇವುಗಳು ಅಕ್ಕಮಹಾದೇವಿಯವರು ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನನನ್ನೇ ವರಿಸಲಿದ್ದಾರೆ ಎಂಬ 'ಶಿವ-ಪಾರ್ವತಿ' ವಿವಾಹದ ಸಂಕೇತಗಳಂತೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಬಂದಿವೆ.
ಚರಣ 2 (ಜಂಗಮದ ದರ್ಶನ)
ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಜಡೆಗಳ ಸುಳಿಪಲ್ಲ ಗೊರವನು |
ಭಿಕ್ಷಕ್ಕೆ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದುದ ಕಂಡೆನವ್ವ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಸಣ್ಣ ಸಣ್ಣದಾದ ಜಡೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ, ಸುಂದರವಾದ ಹಲ್ಲುಗಳ ಸಾಲುಳ್ಳ ಒಬ್ಬ 'ಗೊರವ' (ಜಂಗಮ ಅಥವಾ ಶಿವಭಕ್ತ) ಭಿಕ್ಷೆಗಾಗಿ ನನ್ನ ಮನೆಗೆ ಬಂದಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಕಂಡೆನು. ಅಕ್ಕಮಹಾದೇವಿಯವರ ಪಾಲಿಗೆ ಆ ಗೊರವನು ಸಾಕ್ಷಾತ್ ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನನೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದನು.
ಚರಣ 3 (ಆಧ್ಯಾತ್ಮಿಕ ಮಿಲನ)
ಮಿಕ್ಕು ಮೀರಿ ಹೋಹನ ಬೆಂಬತ್ತಿ ಕೈಪಿಡಿದೆ |
ಚೆನ್ನ ಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನನ ಕಂಡು ನಾ ಕಣ್ತೆರೆದೆ ||
ಅರ್ಥ: ಭಿಕ್ಷೆ ಪಡೆದು ವೇಗವಾಗಿ ಮುಂದೆ ಹೋಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಆ ಗೊರವನನ್ನು (ಶಿವನನ್ನು) ನಾನು ಬಿಡದೆ ಬೆನ್ನಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಆತನನ್ನು ಹಿಡಿದು ಕೈ ಹಿಡಿದಾಗ (ಆಲಿಂಗಿಸಿದಾಗ ಅಥವಾ ಸೆರೆ ಹಿಡಿದಾಗ), ಆತನೇ ನನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿಯ 'ಚೆನ್ನಮಲ್ಲಿಕಾರ್ಜುನ' ಎಂಬ ಅರಿವಾಯಿತು. ಈ ಪರಮ ಸುಖದ ಅನುಭವದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನು ಕಣ್ಣು ತೆರೆದೆನು.

This is one of the most famous and spiritually significant vachanas (prose-poems) by Akkamahadevi, the 12th-century mystic and saint. It uses the imagery of a dream to describe an intimate encounter with the Divine.

In this poem, Akkamahadevi describes a vivid dream to her friend (referred to as 'Akka' or sister). She sees auspicious wedding items, signaling her spiritual marriage to the Lord. A wandering monk (Gorava) with matted hair comes to her door for alms. As she chases after this divine figure and catches hold of him, she realizes it is her beloved Lord, Chennamallikarjuna. Meaning: "Listen, O sister, listen to me! I have seen a dream, a most wonderful dream." (Here, she is addressing a fellow seeker or a close friend).
The Auspicious Signs
Akki adake ole tenginakayi kande |
Kelavva nanondu kanasa kande ||
Meaning: "In my dream, I saw rice, betel nuts, palm leaves (used for wedding invitations), and coconuts." These are all traditional items used in Hindu wedding rituals, symbolizing that her spiritual wedding to the Lord is about to take place.
The Divine Visitor
Chikka chikka jadegala sulipalla goravanu |
Bhikshakke manege banduda kandenavva ||
Meaning: "I saw a wandering monk (Gorava) with small, neat matted locks of hair and a beautiful set of teeth. He came to my house seeking alms (Bhiksha)." In the Veerashaiva tradition, Shiva often appears in the form of a wandering teacher or monk to test or bless his devotees.
The Union
Mikku miri hohana bembatti kaipidide |
Chenna mallikarjunana kandu na kanterede ||
Meaning: "As he started to leave, moving beyond my reach, I chased after him and caught his hand. In that moment of holding him, I realized he was my Lord Chennamallikarjuna, and with that realization, I opened my eyes (woke up)."
